Maths, English & Practical Ideas
Science in Year 4- How does food pass through our bodies? Year 4 did an experiment to show how food passes through our bodies from the moment you put it into your mouth until the moment it leaves the body as waste. Can you identify each stage in our experiment?
Did you know that on Friday 1st November there was a special celebration in Mexico called 'Day of the Dead'? As part of our learning about sculpture, Year 4 created their own sculptures inspired by the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico.
Great news! Year 4 have started to learn to play the ukulele!
Year 4 visited the Grace Family home from 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' story. We were set several tasks to complete. Can you spot which tasks we are doing in each photograph? Planning a route through the woods, using our map reading skills to find a place to build a nest for the Boggart, building nests using great teamwork and using our orienteering skills to find items featured in the story 'The Spiderwick Chronicles'.
Welcome to Year 4
Our class teachers are Mrs Williams and Miss Grice (associate teacher), our teaching assistant is Mrs Barrow, our Year 4 teacher of the deaf is Miss Wood and our teaching assistant of the deaf is Ms Hodgetts.
We are looking forward to having an exciting year of learning building upon the children's previous learning experiences and we have an interesting and engaging curriculum planned for the year.
During the year there will be three themes: A Place in the Sun with a focus on Geography, Heroes and Villains which has a History focus and The Rhythm of Life in which Science is the main driver.
We would like your children to read at home every evening and record in their Reading Records - we ask that you please ensure this record is returned to school on a daily basis to help us to monitor the children’s reading. Children will receive home learning activities on a weekly basis.
In Maths we will be building on the children’s previous learning in all areas of the Mathematics curriculum. All children must learn all of the times tables by the end of Year 4 and, during June, this will be the first time that Year 4 children across the country will take the Multiplication Tables Check. We will explain more about this to you later in the year.
Please make sure your child has his/her full P.E kit in school every day and that all items are labelled. Our P.E. days are Tuesday (Swimming in the Autumn Term) and Wednesday. The school P.E kit is a white t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls. For health and safety reasons children are not permitted to wear earrings during P.E and long hair needs to be tied back. For swimming (Tuesdays) please ensure your child has a swim suit (for girls), swimming shorts (above the knee only) or trunks (for boys) and a towel. All hair must be tied back.
We look forward to a great partnership with you throughout Year 4.
Year 4 Team
