Learning About Deaf Awareness and Assisted Listening Devices...

As part of our commitment to inclusion and children's rights, pupils took part in a valuable learning session led by a visiting Teacher of the Deaf. During the session, children learned about a range of assisted listening devices and explored how these technologies support Deaf children and young people to access learning, communicate effectively and participate fully in school life.

The session helped pupils develop a greater understanding of Deafness and Deaf identity, encouraging them to appreciate the different ways people communicate and experience the world. Children learned about the importance of removing barriers to learning and how simple adjustments can help ensure that everyone feels included, valued and able to succeed.

The visiting specialist also shared positive messages about Deaf culture and identity, helping pupils to recognise that differences should be celebrated and respected. Through discussion and practical examples, children developed empathy, understanding and respect for others' experiences.

This learning linked closely to Article 23, which states that children with disabilities have the right to participate fully in their communities and access support that helps them thrive. It also supported Article 2, the right to be treated fairly and without discrimination, and Article 28, the right to education. The session promoted the British Values of Mutual Respect and Tolerance, helping pupils develop a deeper understanding of inclusion and equality while celebrating diversity within our school community.
