Staff Learning British Sign Language (BSL)...
At our school, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child feels valued, supported and able to communicate effectively. To strengthen this commitment, members of staff have been learning British Sign Language (BSL), with sessions generously delivered by one of our parents.
The training has provided staff with valuable skills and increased confidence in using sign language to communicate with all our pupils. By developing their understanding of BSL, staff are better equipped to support children's communication needs and ensure that all pupils can fully participate in school life.
This initiative demonstrates our commitment to inclusion and equality, helping to remove barriers to learning and communication. It also promotes a culture of respect, understanding and acceptance, while encouraging the whole school community to celebrate diversity.
The learning links closely to Article 23, which recognises the rights of children with disabilities to participate fully in their communities, and Article 2, which states that every child should be treated fairly and without discrimination. Through learning BSL, staff are helping to ensure that all children feel heard, included and empowered to reach their full potential.
