Year 5 Promoting Children's Rights...

Year 5 have taken an active role in promoting children's rights across the school by designing and creating informative Rights Respecting posters for display around the building. Through this project, pupils used their knowledge of the UNICEF Rights of the Child to raise awareness and help ensure that all members of the school community understand the importance of children's rights.

The children carefully designed posters explaining key rights, who the rights holders are and who the duty bearers are. They learned that all children are rights holders and that adults, including parents, teachers, schools, governments and other organisations, are duty bearers who have a responsibility to help ensure that children's rights are respected, protected and fulfilled.

By creating resources for others to learn from, pupils developed a deeper understanding of children's rights while becoming advocates for positive change within the school community. The posters encourage important conversations about fairness, equality, respect and responsibility and help ensure that children's rights remain visible and embedded throughout school life.

This project linked closely to Article 42, which states that children and adults should know about children's rights, and Article 12, the right for children to have their views heard and taken seriously. Through their work, Year 5 have demonstrated excellent leadership and commitment to helping others understand and respect the rights of every child.
