Bailey's Rights Respecting Reception Journey...

As part of our Rights Respecting Schools work, Reception children have been taking Bailey the Rights Respecting Dog home to continue their rights learning with their families. Bailey's Rights Respecting Journey provides children with meaningful opportunities to explore the UNICEF Rights of the Child beyond the classroom and understand how these rights are part of their everyday lives.

Each child is encouraged to spend time with Bailey while completing an activity linked to a specific right, such as enjoying a favourite book together, celebrating a special family tradition, participating in a religious or cultural event, or sharing a healthy meal. Children then add photographs and captions to Bailey's diary, explaining how they have experienced that right at home.

This initiative helps to strengthen the partnership between home and school while encouraging children to recognise the importance of rights such as the right to education (Article 28), freedom of thought, belief and religion (Article 14), and the right to health and healthcare (Article 24). The children thoroughly enjoy sharing Bailey's adventures with their classmates and are developing a deeper understanding that children's rights are relevant both in school and in their wider lives.
