Year 3: Embedding Children’s Rights in Everyday Learning...

Year 3 consistently link children’s rights and British Values across their weekly curriculum and daily routines. Rights are not taught as a stand-alone subject, but are meaningfully woven into lessons, classroom discussions and morning activities.

Across the week, children are encouraged to reflect on important rights such as the right to be heard, the right to ask questions, the right to learn and the right to access information. In History, pupils explored Ancient Egypt and were encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, use a range of sources and find out about the past. In Maths, children developed their learning through problem-solving and reasoning activities, showing how the right to education is promoted across all subjects.

Year 3 also use daily “Good Morning” activities to strengthen pupil voice and wellbeing. During “We Write Wednesdays”, children are given opportunities to express their ideas in writing, while “Talk Tuesday” encourages them to work with a partner, listen carefully, take turns and share their thoughts respectfully. These activities link closely to Article 12, the right to have a voice and be listened to, as well as British Values such as mutual respect and tolerance.

Through these carefully planned links, Year 3 demonstrate that children’s rights are embedded throughout the whole curriculum and are part of everyday classroom life.
