Rights in Action: Our Regular Rights Respecting Newsletters...
Our Pupil Ambassadors play a key role in creating our Rights Respecting School newsletters each term. Working collaboratively, they gather information from across the school, celebrate pupils' achievements and identify examples of how children's rights and British Values are being promoted in everyday school life.
The newsletters showcase a wide range of activities and events, including fundraising for charities, promoting positive mental health through Hello Yellow Day, celebrating cultural and religious festivals, participating in Safer Internet Day, supporting reading initiatives, learning British Sign Language, caring for the environment, and reflecting on important national events such as St George's Day and VE Day. Through these articles, pupils highlight how rights such as the right to education, the right to be safe, the right to health and wellbeing, and the right to express their views are embedded throughout our curriculum.
The Pupil Ambassadors also ensure that the newsletters celebrate key British Values, including mutual respect, tolerance, democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law. By sharing these experiences with families and the wider community, the newsletters help to raise awareness of children's rights and demonstrate how our school empowers pupils to become active, responsible and compassionate citizens.
In addition, the ambassadors created a Rights Respecting QR code display to encourage pupils, staff and families to learn more about the Rights of the Child, helping to ensure that children's rights remain visible, accessible and at the heart of school life.
