Welcome to our Nursery...

This week we have been reading the book Oliver's Vegetables.. The role play area has been transformed into a Green Grocers and we have been familiarising ourselves with the names and shapes of different vegetables. We have planted carrot tops and cress, which are already starting to grow!

We have been reading the story Supertato, thinking about the setting, key events and characters in the story. We created our own Supertato characters using potatoes, then retold the story using the story tray. In PE we took part in a superhero training camp, moving in different ways to avoid Evil Pea!

We are all superhero learners! We have been discovering our own personal learning powers this week. We thought about what makes a superhero super, dressed up as superheroes and set to work developing our own super listening, looking and learning powers.

This week we celebrated International Women's Day and Mothers Day. We have been learning about why we celebrate Mother's Day and thinking about the important women in our lives.

Rahaz-'My mommy is fast like a superhero'

Isaiah-'My mommy does super work all the time'

Hajrah-'My mom makes me breakfast'

Lucas-'I play with my mommy'

Yasmin-'Mommy makes me my tea'

Jayden-'My mommy makes cake'

It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school. We have been busy re-establishing friendships and remembering the nursery routine. During circle time, Pip the puppet has helped us to settle back into nursery by listening to our thoughts and feelings about being back at school.

Wonderful World Book Day!

To celebrate St David's Day and the first day of spring the children painted and created delightful daffodils...

Mix a pancake, stir a pancake, pop it in a pan. Fry the pancake, toss the pancake, catch it if you can!

In maths, the children have been looking for shapes in the outdoor area...

Gung Hay Fat Choy! This week we celebrated Chinese New Year, year of the Ox. We participated in the Chinese New Year story, had a go at Chinese writing, made lanterns and tasted prawn crackers. After watching a Chinese dragon dance we made dragons and created our own dragon dance.

Nobel has been practising positional language. Super learning Nobel!

Another super snowy day!

As part of our PSE Development we read the book 'When I'm Feeling Happy'

During Circle Time we shared with Pip some of the things that make us feel happy...

Row Row Row Your Boat...

Following instructions to create our own boats...

Wow Daniel! What an amazing boat. Did you see a crocodile, polar bear or a lion as you sailed down the stream?

The nursery children have been matching, sorting and exploring patterns and shapes in maths. In Letters and Sounds they have been using their 'action hands' to join in with songs and have explored different ways of using their voices. In Theme they worked together to build boats to sail gently down the stream!

1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive!

The children have been busy fishing this week. How many fish do you think they caught?

Super craft work Mason!

Mason and Lucas have been exploring in the woods, looking out for sticks and fir cones.

Wow Daniel! You have been very busy drawing, cutting, counting and ordering fish. Super learning!

This week we have been exploring the rhyme 1, 2,3 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive.

Do you want to build a snowman? Isaiah, Kaleela and Tasha had great fun in the snow.

Super concentration and cutting Lucas!

You look like you had a great time in the snow Amelia. We really like your snowman!

It is lovely to see you practising your literacy skills Daniel. You are a fantastic learner!

Incy Wincy Spider...

Mason and Lucas have been on a worm and spider hunt. How many worms did you find? How many spiders did you find?

Tasha has been busy at home weaving a web and making a sock spider.

Amelia used playdough to make her spiders. Super spiders Amelia!

Our theme this week has been Incy Wincy Spider. We have been busy learning spider facts from CBeebies' Andy and joining in with the Spidery Bounce dance. We have also been threading to create spider webs and making spiders using pompoms, paper plates and playdough. In Maths we made spider biscuits. There were lots of spider legs to count! In Letters and Sounds we sang the Incy Wincy Spider rhyme, then thought about what happened first, next and last.

As part of our learning this week we have been making shakers. We then used them in our singing session.

Amelia has decorated her shaker using lots of different colours.

Humpty Dumpty...

Ordering Humpty Dumpty

We made scrambled eggs on toast, yum! yum! We noticed how the eggs changed when they were cooked.

Amelia has been busy exploring eggs at home and drawing a picture of Humpty Dumpty falling off the wall. A lovey picture Amelia!

During the week we have been investigating eggs to discover why Humpty Dumpty could not be put back together again.

In maths we worked together to build Humpty Dumpty different sized walls to sit on. We think he preferred the small wall!

In Letters and Sounds we have been exploring the sounds of instruments, copying different rhythms and keeping a simple beat.

We have been practising our pencil control and letter formation when writing our names.

Lucas has been practising his fine motor skills by tracing, cutting and sticking. Super home learning Lucas!

What careful cutting and sticking you have done Mason!

Jayden, super sorting, pencil control and reading. Well done!

Wonderful home learning Amelia. You have been busy!
