Welcome to Reception (September 2020). The children have settled in beautifully and it is a delight to observe them interacting with their new friends and making positive relationships with the adults in school. The children have been thoroughly enjoying exploring their indoor and outdoor environments. We have been helping ‘Twiggle the Turtle’ to be the ‘Best Learners’ we can be and ensuring that we have a ‘Growth Mindset’ when tackling new tasks.
The children are our super Germ Busters and they are washing their hands regularly and ensuring they use the 'Nose Wiping Station' if they need to 'catch it, bin it, kill it'.
Starting School is a major milestone for you and your child. As parents, you want your children to make the best possible start to school life. We all want the same thing – a happy, confident child who enjoys going to school and loves learning. By building an effective home/school partnership, we can all achieve this aim together.

We have been baking bread and making butter for Mr Grinling (Lighthouse Keeper). We have also been writing sentences in phonics. Super writers use Fred fingers for spelling, finger spaces between words, a capital letter at the start of a sentence and a full stop at the end of a sentence. The children decided to make their own seagulls to try and eat their bread. We have been writing subtraction number sentences in mathematics. The children are absolutely loving spending time together in continuous provision and group activities…
This week we have been reading The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. The children have created their own lighthouse and have written about their lighthouse. We have also been reading our phonics books with expression. Look at us having a great time using the barrels and playing ‘Simon Says’. In mathematics we have been subtracting by building interlocking cube lighthouses.
Look at Erin's giant beanstalk! We loved the story Jack and the Beanstalk.
Reception - We have written a shopping list for Mrs Maksymczuk because we are baking biscuits, bread and making ice lollies this week for Grandma.
Reception Bubble – We followed a ‘Tablespoon’ recipe to bake biscuits for Grandma and have written the cooking instructions for The Big Bad Wolf to follow. The children used 2D shapes to create their own pictures. We have been reading our ‘phonics’ non – fiction and fiction books and writing simple sentences linked to these books.
Reception – We have been exploring freezing and melting. Look at the delicious fresh fruit lollipops we have made for Little Red Riding Hood.

Reception - Our story this week is Little Red Riding Hood. Reiss helped Mrs Maksymczuk to read the story. We used 2D shapes to create repeating pattern paths to Grandma’s house. The children have been collecting natural materials for painting. Erin, Eiliyah and Jon-Paul have made baskets for Little Red Riding Hood. Kyle, Bailey and Reiss have been exploring colour mixing to paint Little Red Riding Hood.
We have been practising for our Reception Class Sports Day. Look at us jumping over the hurdles, balancing beanbags on our heads and sprinting.

Jack and the Beanstalk… We have been exploring growing by planting bean seeds for Jack. We have also written instructions for Jack to plant his own beanstalk. The Giant was very angry so we explored melting and made him some giant ‘Magic Bean’ cakes. In mathematics we have been counting beans accurately and revisiting addition and doubling.
A big thank you to Vicky (Mrs Zentani’s niece) for her generous donation of this amazing Playmobil castle. The children absolutely loved assembling and exploring the castle. The children have written Vicky a ‘Thank You’ card… look at their amazing writing!
'Loving Learning' in school after 'Lockdown'. We have our own bag of equipment, our own chair and we have made our own playdough and playdough mat...
