This week in Nursery, we have been enjoying the wonderful story Leaf Man. The children had lots of fun looking carefully at the illustrations and spotting the hidden animals amongst the leaves. We then used our imaginations to create our own leaf people, using leaves that we had collected. The children explored different shapes, sizes and colours as they arranged their leaves, developing their creativity, observation skills and fine motor skills. It was lovely to see their unique leaf creations come to life!

This week, the children have been enjoying the story of Owl Babies! They have been developing their listening and communication skills as they explored the story and talked about the different owl characters and their families. The children also created their own beautiful owl paintings using potato mashers to print and create interesting patterns and textures. We have been talking about our own families too, sharing who is special to us and celebrating the different families that make each of us unique.

What a wonderful start our Nursery children have had!

Over the past few weeks our children have been busy settling into the environment, getting to know their new teachers and some new friends, and beginning to feel at home in our Nursery.

A big part of our first few weeks has been learning and practising our daily routines. The children are beginning to understand how our Nursery day works, including:

- saying goodbye to their grown-ups and coming into Nursery 

- finding our belongings and looking after our things

- lining up to walk safely around the EYFS environment

- washing our hands

- sitting together for snack

- choosing activities and tidying up afterwards

- listening to stories together

- understanding how we use the different areas of the Nursery classroom

Just a little reminder that, after dropping your child off, we ask parents to say their goodbyes and leave rather than waiting around. This helps the children settle into their nursery routine and gives them the confidence to get involved in the day. Thank you for your understanding and support!

We've been lucky enough to have experienced some beautiful weather recently, and as much as we love to be outdoors, playing in the sun, we must always remember how to keep ourselves safe in the hot weather too.

Nursery enjoyed listening to the story of George, the Sun Safe Superstar by Chantal Renn and Kathryn Clifford. The story helped the children to learn the importance of slipping on a t-shirt, slapping on a hat, slopping on some sun cream and sunglasses.

And of course, trying to keep hydrated and cool. And what better way of doing that than enjoying a refreshing ice lolly in the shade.

The classic children's tale, The Gingerbread Man, is always a firm favourite in Nursery.

The children were so excited to actually make their own 'real' gingerbread person. Combining all the ingredients, rolling the dough, decorating and finally eating them.

The children have wonderful recall of all the key elements of the story. Including all the main characters, and the events that followed.

We have had so many learning opportunities, as we've read The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We've explored the concepts of long, short and tall in maths, so we made caterpillars out of duplo, ribbon and playdough. Using finger paints, we created symmetrical butterflies. We also discussed all the food the caterpillar ate in the story, and what we thought was healthy and not so healthy for PSHE, and we sorted them into groups.
