In Year 4, times tables are a big focus throughout the year. By the end of the summer term, all children will take part in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) — a short online test that assesses how quickly and accurately they can recall their multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. This check is designed to help children become more confident and fluent with their times tables, which are an essential foundation for many areas of maths.

To help prepare, we use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) both in school and at home. TTRS is an exciting, interactive platform that turns times tables practice into a fun and competitive challenge. Children can create their own rock star avatars, earn coins, and compete in different game modes while improving their recall speed.

We encourage all Year 4 children to log on regularly — even 10 minutes of practice a few times a week can make a huge difference. The more they play, the more confident and fluent they become. Teachers monitor progress and celebrate achievements along the way, helping every child to feel motivated and proud of their progress.
