How do plants grow?

In Science, we have been learning how plants grow. Children have really enjoyed learning about the process of germination and the different growth stages of a plant, from seed to adult plant. We have introduced the basic structure of a plant and how they work together. We have also discussed the importance of providing the right conditions for plants to grow, such as water, sunlight and nutrients they need.

Children have enjoyed planting their own seeds in class, understanding the importance of looking after them by nurturing and watering them when the soil is dry. They have particularly enjoyed observing, watching their growth over time. We have also seen what happens when we don't look after seedlings and if the conditions aren't right, producing mouldy seeds and no growth at all. Fingers crossed we do some success and are able to plant them out in our school garden.

We have created a Year 1 garden (this is located in the train containers in the playground), from plants Mrs Barrow has grown in her own garden. Children have enjoyed planting them all out and are very fond of checking on them daily during their playtime, making sure they have plenty of water.
