We are incredibly proud of the children's hard work and perseverance, as they begin to learn phonic sounds in preparation for their journey into Reception next year. The children's letter formation is coming on beautifully, and many of us are now writing our names independently, and even blending short words.

  • Park Visit

    Published 18/06/25, by Jo Beardmore

The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Sutton Park.

We explored the wooded area looking for signs of the 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf!

We collected our own sticks to build a house for the 3 little pigs.

And of course we enjoyed some time in the playground on the swings and slides.

Miss Phillips, Mrs Beardmore, Mr Selmes and Miss Leddy were extremely proud of how well the children followed instructions, keeping themselves safe whilst in the park and safely wearing their seatbelts on the minibus.

The children thoroughly enjoyed being out in the sunshine hunting for minibeasts. Equiped with magnifying glasses and our checklists, we searched the school environment, looking for insects and minibeasts featured in the story Superworm by Julia Donalson. Hunting in forest school, the vegetable patch and the flower beds, we were lucky enough to find spiders, snails, ladybirds, and many more.

During our Jigsaw lesson for PSHE, we learnt about the importance of keeping our hands clean.

Mrs Beardmore had been digging in the garden and had dirt all over her hands!

We focused on the importance of always washing our hands properly with soap after using the toilet and always before we have our morning snacks. We want to keep ourselves and our friends and teachers safe.

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

    Published 02/04/25, by Jo Beardmore

The children have been using The Very Hungry Caterpillar story as a basis for our Maths focus this week. The children have expanded on their knowledge of length. Using a variety of resources, we've made caterpillars that are long and short, some have been longer, some have been shorter. We then compared them to see which is the longest and the shortest, and questioned, how do we know which one is longer or shorter?

  • Spring is here!

    Published 26/03/25, by Jo Beardmore

Spring is here, and the children have been observing the changes in the seasons and how the environment around them is changing. We went for a spring walk, looking at the buds on the trees, the blossom, and the daffodils. It's lovely to be out in the sunshine.

Our garden needed tending to, so we've been out getting our hands dirty, removing the weeds, and sowing some new seeds for some spring flowers, herbs and vegetables.

We've looked closely at the daffodils growing in our garden, identifying the petals, the trumpet and the stems.

  • Parent Workshop

    Published 11/03/25, by Jo Beardmore

This week, it has been lovely to invite the children's parents into nursery, to experience what it is that the children do during their time with us.

We explored the different ways of developing our fine motor skills, with dough disco, threading and construction, marking making in shaving foam, pasta and flour, and practised recognising and writing our names.

The children demonstrated to their parents how we do dough disco, so that they can practice at home as well.

Use the QR codes below to follow the 'crocodile snap' finger exercises, and dough disco routines.

  • The Gingerbread Man

    Published 05/03/25, by Jo Beardmore

Our traditional tale this week is The Gingerbread Man.  We've enjoyed joining in with telling the story, and of course, we've baked our own. It was lots of fun, combining all of the ingredients, using our hands to make a dough, rolling it out, and using cutters to create our own gingerbread person. Mrs Beardmore carefully put them into the oven, and we couldn't wait to eat them. They were delicious!

  • The 3 little pigs.

    Published 26/02/25, by Jo Beardmore

The children have loved having their own building sit in nursery this week. Trying to build a house of bricks that the wolf can't blow down.

We looked at all the different materials that the pigs tried to use to build a house with, straw, sticks and bricks. Which will be the strongest?

The big bad wolf huffs and puffs to blow the houses down, so we 'huffed and puffed' when bubble painting, and we've been junk modelling, making our own houses for the pigs, using cardboard boxes and lots of sticky glue!
