  • Exploring Shapes

    Published 12/02/25, by Jo Beardmore

The children have enjoyed going on a shape hunt this week. We've been exploring our school, trying to find squares and rectangles. We found lots in the playground, inside school and in our classroom. Our magic number has been 4, as we've learnt that squares and rectangles both have 4 sides and 4 corners.

Using shapes, we've been very creative. We printed with paint and used glue and coloured paper.

This week we've been inspired by all the wonderful colours of Elmer the Elephant. The children have enjoyed making their own colourful stained glass Elmers using tissue paper on laminates. They do look lovely as the sun shines through them.

Our focus in Maths this week has been numeral 4. Miss Phillips read us the story about Pete and his 4 groovy buttons, and we cut out Pete's button and stuck them onto his jacket.

  • Happy New Year. Welcome back Nursery.

    Published 15/01/25, by Dawn Philllips

After a lovely break to celebrate Christmas, we welcome Nursery back for the new term.

We have enjoyed reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear this week, focussing on all the different animals and their colours. The children created some wonderful artwork, using paint and collage. They have also worked hard at retrieving their prior knowledge of Maths. Before our break, we worked on recognising and representing numerals 1,2 and 3. Nursery have done well with subitising these numbers; aswell as recognising shapes and using them to make a representation of a bear. Great work Nursery!

We made bricks for Humpty's wall by printing rectangles and even made our own scrambled egg with Mrs Beardmore. It was yummy! Then we predicted what might happen if 'Humpty' fell on a variety of different surfaces. What a fun 'eggsperiment' !!!

  • Learning with Goldilocks!

    Published 21/11/24, by Dawn Philllips

We have recently shared the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Nursery linked most of their learning to this fairy tale. We made shopping lists, invitations and birthday cards for Goldilocks to support our mark-making skills and added different shapes to our party hats to help us to remember them! We thoroughly enjoyed making porridge and 'eating it all up'. Retelling the story using props was lots of fun, whilst filling and emptying different sized bowls with porridge oats was even better! We hope you can see how much fun we have had by looking at our photographs!
