Merry Christmas!
We have been extremely busy in the run-up to Christmas. We have shared and role- played the Christmas story, enjoyed learning the songs for our nativity performance and created cards and calendars for our loved ones.

We have been thinking about the changing seasons in Nursery. We went for a Winter walk to look for 'Stick Man' and shared his story! We linked our learning to other areas of the curriculum by making our own stick men out of shapes and following patterns by using natural materials such as leaves and branches. What fun we had!
Nursery enjoyed sharing the story and nursery rhyme of Humpty Dumpty! We adapted our learning to link in with this famous nursery rhyme. We made bricks for Humpty's wall by printing rectangles and even made our own scrambled egg with Mrs Beardmore. It was yummy! Then we predicted what might happen if 'Humpty' fell on a variety of different surfaces. What a fun 'eggsperiment' !!!
We have recently shared the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Nursery linked most of their learning to this fairy tale. We made shopping lists, invitations and birthday cards for Goldilocks to support our mark-making skills and added different shapes to our party hats to help us to remember them! We thoroughly enjoyed making porridge and 'eating it all up'. Retelling the story using props was lots of fun, whilst filling and emptying different sized bowls with porridge oats was even better! We hope you can see how much fun we have had by looking at our photographs!
In our Nursery Class we have been thinking about numbers 1 and 2! The children enjoyed recalling which party hat from Goldilocks' birthday party had '1 counter' hiding below it! They have also been using five frames to count out 1 or 2 counters or pom-poms! We have also been practising recognising numbers and counting objects up to 2. We can even show you 'how many' by using our fingers! Well done Nursery!
Nursery thought about Remembrance Day by taking part in lots of activities eg. making collage poppies and using tweezers to add pom-poms to the spots on poppies to improve their fine manipulative skills! We improved our pencil control by tracing poppy patterns and chalking our own versions.
We had so much fun celebrating Bonfire Night! Nursery created fireworks in paint and linked our learning to making them in play-dough for Diwali too! Mr Selmes helped us to recognise different sounds from the environment such as crunchy Autumn leaves, a crackling fire and fireworks! He also encouraged us to move like fireworks in PE and finally we discussed how to keep safe at this time of year!
Nursery have really enjoyed taking part in different activities to celebrate Diwali! We showed Bertie Owl (our special friend in RE lessons) our Rangoli and Mehndi patterns. We also created fireworks in our play dough! Waht fun!
Welcome to a new year in Hawthorn Nursery Class! The children are settling really well and trying hard with their 'good sitting' and 'good listening' skills. We have lots of fantastic opportunities for the children to learn and develop their speaking and listening skills through various forms of indoor and outdoor play activities. Learning is definitely fun in Nursery!
