  • Making a chair for Baby Bear

    Published 04/06/26, by Vicki Gore

In this Design and Technology unit, the children explored how structures can be made strong, stiff and stable. They investigated different types of chairs and tested a range of materials to discover which were most suitable for supporting weight. The children learnt how shape, size and material choice affect the strength of a structure. Using their findings, they designed a chair for Baby Bear, considering how it would meet the design criteria. They then constructed their chairs using appropriate materials and joining techniques. Finally, the children tested and evaluated their finished products, identifying strengths and suggesting improvements for future designs.

  • The Art of Animation - Summer 1

    Published 04/06/26, by Vicki Gore

In Computing this half-term, the children have been developing their understanding of animation techniques. Using the principle of onion skinning, they planned and created their own animations featuring the world's oceans and continents. This project enabled them to build key digital skills, including sequencing, editing and refining animations, while also reinforcing their prior learning in Geography from earlier in the year. The children demonstrated creativity and perseverance as they brought their ideas to life through animated presentations.

Once they had developed confidence with the software and animation techniques, the children designed and created their own sea creatures using JiT. They then applied the onion skinning technique to produce smooth animations, bringing their creatures to life as they swam through the oceans.
