Bailey – Our Rights Respecting Mascot...

Bailey, our school therapy dog, plays a special role as our Rights Respecting Mascot. Bailey helps children learn about the UNICEF Rights of the Child in an engaging and meaningful way, encouraging pupils to think about how rights apply both in school and at home.
Throughout the year, Bailey supports children's understanding of important rights such as the right to education, the right to health and wellbeing, the right to be heard and the right to be safe. Bailey regularly visits classrooms, takes part in rights-based activities and helps children explore how they can respect the rights of others through kindness, inclusion and mutual respect.
Children particularly enjoy taking part in Bailey's Rights Respecting Journey, where they take Bailey home and complete activities linked to specific rights with their families. This helps to strengthen the connection between home and school while encouraging children to recognise how rights are part of everyday life.
As a therapy dog, Bailey also promotes emotional wellbeing, providing comfort, companionship and opportunities for children to develop confidence, communication skills and positive relationships. Bailey has become a much-loved member of our school community and is a wonderful ambassador for children's rights, helping pupils to understand that every child deserves to be safe, healthy, valued and respected.
