Reception Science, SACRE and Rights Learning...

Reception have been learning about how special our world is and why we all have a responsibility to care for it. Through their science and SACRE learning, the children explored the natural world, discussed how plants grow and identified simple ways they can help to keep the environment clean and healthy.

The children took part in practical activities such as planting seeds, watering plants, litter picking and sorting materials for recycling. They also completed a sorting activity using pictures of a "happy world" and a "sad world", discussing how different choices and actions can either help or harm the environment. Through these discussions, they developed an understanding of how to care for plants, animals and the wider world.

This learning linked closely to Article 24, the right to be as healthy as possible, and Article 29, the right to an education that develops children's personalities, talents and abilities and encourages respect for the natural environment. Through stories, discussion and hands-on learning, Reception developed an early understanding that everyone can play a part in protecting our planet and caring for the world around them for future generations.
