Rights Through Reading...

At our school, carefully selected books linked to the UNICEF Rights of the Child are displayed around school to help promote a rights-respecting culture and encourage meaningful discussion. These books explore themes such as equality, diversity, inclusion, belonging, kindness, identity, resilience and fairness, helping children to develop a deeper understanding of both their own rights and the rights of others.

Children have regular opportunities throughout the week to read for pleasure and engage with these high-quality texts independently, with their peers and during class story sessions. The books provide valuable opportunities for pupils to reflect on important issues, develop empathy and explore different perspectives from around the world.

Our Rights Respecting reading areas also feature an 'Article of the Week', rights-based displays and resources that encourage children to make connections between the stories they read and the rights they learn about in school. By embedding rights through literature, we help children develop a love of reading while fostering respectful, informed and compassionate young citizens who understand the importance of protecting the rights of all children.
