Welcome to Year 4 with Miss Rees and Miss James!

We are so excited to welcome your children into Year 4. It’s a year filled with growing confidence, new challenges and lots of opportunities to shine. Pupils will enjoy engaging topics across the curriculum, build independence in their learning, and continue developing strong friendships and positive classroom habits.

    Overview of the Year

Year 4 is a wonderful step forward: children deepen their reading and writing skills, explore rich history and geography units, and become more confident mathematicians. They will take part in creative art projects, hands‑on science investigations, thoughtful RE discussions, and purposeful computing lessons. Throughout the year, we focus on resilience, kindness and trying our best — celebrating progress at every stage.

    Multiplication Check

In Year 4, children complete the statutory Multiplication Tables Check. We approach this positively and calmly, helping pupils feel confident with their times tables up to 12×12. Regular practice makes a huge difference, and we encourage children to use Times Table Rock Stars at home and in school to build speed and accuracy in a fun, motivating way.

You can learn more about the multiplication check or how to support your child with Times Table Rock Stars.

Next week, Year 4 are looking forward to a special Ancient Greek pottery workshop! On Tuesday at 1:45pm, parents and carers are invited to join us as we create our own Greek clay pots. This exciting activity links our Art and History learning, helping us to understand how the Ancient Greeks used pottery to tell stories, celebrate events, and record daily life. We can't wait to get creative and share our learning together!

Number Day is the NSPCC's mega maths fundraising event. Every year, thousands of schools and nurseries across the UK fundraise for the NSPCC by having fun with maths.

Today, we kicked off with an assembly hosted by Mr Robinson, our maths lead! It was lovely to see so many children dressed up and representing a number or a few.
